Our French volunteer Rodolphe Spoorenberg, who went to India within our ESC Humanitarian Aid project “HAND”, funded by the European Commission and hosted by our Indian partner, Orissa State Volunteers and Social Workers Association (OSVSWA), completed his 9-month volunteering service in India.
During his activity, Rodolphe engaged in projects designed to empower young people in rural Odisha. He facilitated skill-building sessions and community activities with children and adolescents in Konark.
Rodolphe was actively involved in OSVSWA’s flagship program on menstrual health management. His efforts contributed to creating awareness, breaking stigmas, and ensuring access to essential hygiene resources for rural women and girls.
Rodolphe contributed to initiatives aimed at improving the livelihoods of marginalized communities. His work included engaging with community stakeholders, helping implement innovative livelihood solutions, and ensuring long-term economic stability for beneficiaries.
Rodolphe also supported environmental programs focused on coastal restoration, particularly through mangrove plantation activities. These efforts addressed coastal erosion while fostering community involvement in biodiversity preservation.
Furthermore, he contributed to OSVSWA’s mission to promote sustainable agricultural practices and enhance resilience against climate risks, aligning his efforts with broader goals of environmental security and food sustainability.
With the activity, he had a broader understanding of rural development challenges and solutions, practical experience in grassroots initiatives, particularly in youth empowerment and environmental restoration and a sense of fulfilment in contributing to impactful projects with long-term benefits for the community. We would like to thank Rodolphe for his outstanding work throughout his activity.
