Şükrü completed his activity in Bosnia

Our volunteer Şükrü Elber Kanşıray, who went to Bosnia and Herzegovina within our ESC Humanitarian Aid project “HAND”, funded by the European Commission and hosted by our Bosnian partner, Bosnian Representative Association for Valuable Opportunities (BRAVO), completed his 10-month volunteering service in Sarajevo.
During his volunteering, Şükrü worked in the Blažuj and Ušivak Camps, which are the temporary reception centres for the refugees. His primary responsibilities included organising clothes donations that were coming to camp, classifying each of them, and putting them in order. He also made visits to other workshops in the camp. Additionally, he attended regular team meetings to stay updated on project developments and coordinate with fellow volunteers. He worked in the No Nation Fashion section in the camp, which is a workshop where refugees come and do embroidery, painting, sewing, modelling, and so on. Also, the people from a television channel came and did an interview with refugees joining the volunteers at NNF (No Nation Fashion) which was later published on TV. These accomplishments signify a significant step forward in achieving the overarching goal of NNF and his contributions. Şükrü also worked in the Free Shop section of the camp where the donation comes from individuals and organisations. He organised clothes and separated shoes according to the numbers. He was in charge of finding specific clothes requests from refugees. He also worked in the barber shop in the camp, where refugees could come during certain times of the day to have their beard and hair cut or to do cosmetics needs for themselves. His task was welcoming people who came in, giving them information about facility and material.
Şükrü also worked at the elderly center. He joined many activities in the centre such as doing exercises with the elderly people, playing table tennis, chess, jewellery making and Turkish embroidery. Also he took tasks in garden cleaning and organising İftar dinner during Ramadan.
His involvement in this volunteering activity has significantly contributed to his leadership, teamwork, and communication. Socially, he had the opportunity to interact with diverse groups of people, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for different perspectives and backgrounds. We would like to thank Şükrü for all his dedication in his assignments.
