As part of our SEAL – Sustainable Environment for the Aquatic Life project, funded by the European Commission within the European Solidarity Corps – Volunteering Teams in High Priority Areas, we had an unforgettable day at Kumkapı Beach on September 20th!
Although stormy weather kept most of our activities indoors at the Kumkapı Lounge, the energy and spirit of our participants were stronger than the storm.
Inside, we introduced visitors to our project and raised awareness about the Mediterranean monk seal—once a resident of the Black Sea but now extinct there due to human impact. Together, we discussed the importance of protecting marine life and preserving biodiversity for future generations.
To make learning fun, we played word games centered on ecology and underwater life terminology, sparking curiosity and conversations around the environment. Afterwards, the weather cleared enough for us to head to the beach, where we teamed up to build creative sandcastles with powerful environmental themes.
As a small token of appreciation, every participant received a SEAL project keychain to remember the day and carry the message of marine conservation forward.
Thank you to everyone who joined us despite the storm—your enthusiasm shows that with collective effort, we can protect and restore life below water!
