CLEAN SHORES, CLEAR MINDS | YOURESET in Sinop

Yesterday, as part of our YOURESET project, 17 young people came together to take action for the environment at Sarıkum Beach in Sinop!

Despite the heat, we spent around two and a half hours cleaning the beach, collecting plastics, bottles, packaging and other waste scattered along the shore. It was challenging and exhausting, but seeing the remarkable before-and-after difference made all our efforts worthwhile. ♻️

One of the most inspiring moments of the day came when visitors to Sarıkum noticed what we were doing. Some tourists approached us and asked for gloves and garbage bags so that they could join the cleanup too! Seeing how a small action can inspire others to take part was perhaps one of the most meaningful outcomes of the day.

At the end of the activity, the waste we had collected was picked up by a Sinop Special Provincial Administration garbage truck and removed from the beach. We would like to thank all the young people who contributed, the visitors who spontaneously joined us, and the Special Provincial Administration for their support.

But our activity doesn’t end here!

Tomorrow, we will meet again for the second part of our YOURESET activity. This time, using what we observed on the beach as our starting point, we will explore environmental and climate misinformation, fake media and AI-generated fake news. Together, we will discuss how to identify reliable information, create “misconception vs. fact” content on environmental issues, and give some of the waste we collected from the beach a new life through recycling and upcycling. ♻️

Because protecting our environment is not only about collecting waste. It is also about finding reliable information, questioning what we see and hear, raising awareness, and inspiring others to take action.

Yesterday we cleaned the shore. Tomorrow, we turn action into awareness. ➡️
