French volunteer Anne-Sophie Phetsarath completed her 10-month service in Sarajevo within our European Solidarity Corps Humanitarian Aid project “HAND”, funded by the European Commission and coordinated by EPEKA, supported by our Irish partner Viatores Christi Company Limited by Guarantee (VC) and hosted by our Bosnian partner Bosnian Representative Association for Valuable Opportunities (BRAVO).
During her volunteering, Anne-Sophie worked in the Blažuj and Ušivak Camps, which are the temporary reception centres for the refugees. She prepared welcome packaging, took tasks for cleaning of hangars and held activities at the social corner in Blažuj. She worked at the Free Shop, barber shop, no nation fashion and took tasks on distribution of welcome kits in Ušivak.
Then she worked at the centre for the elderly people, Centar za zdravo starenje Novo Sarajevo. Her activities consisted of artistic workshops, notably with painting, decoupage, aluminum foil, jewelry creation and embroidery. Her work allowed the elderly to have a new vision and a different perception in their activities and their creative processes. The elderly people were genuinely happy to have someone from a different generation with whom they could interact but also pass on their knowledge and tell their stories. On the other hand, Anne-Sophie was able to better understand the Bosnian language and its expressions, and she was also able to better discover Bosnian culture, especially its art history. We would like to thank Anne-Sophie for all her dedication in her work.
