Our Italian volunteer Filippo Arienta completed his 9-month service in India within our European Solidarity Corps, Humanitarian Aid project “HAND”, funded by the European Commission, coordinated by us, supported by our Irish partner Viatores Christi Company Limited by Guarantee (VC) and hosted by our Indian partner Orissa State Volunteers and Social Workers Association (OSVSWA).
During his volunteering, Filippo applied activities with the farmers: needs assessment, discussion about problems faced, looking for solutions and choose the best ones to implement and he organised school activities: raising awareness with short classes and group play about health and environmental topics (first aid, heat related illness, venomous snake bites, climate change and plastic pollution). He also applied to calls for proposals, wrote projects and looked for fundings for rural agriculture activities.
The main impact Filippo brought among school children was the acquisition of knowledge and information almost immediately by them, making them aware and more prepared for different issues in their everyday life. For the activities with farmers, the change was less visible because it needed more time for the project to be continued, entering in a phase of implementation of the solution with the work of future volunteers.
His project management skills and knowledge about rural development have increased a lot, for him it was a completely new theme and he is glad to have learnt so much in this program. Also his skills in organization for field work have been developed. He felt an internal growth because of the chance of cultural exchange and the challenging environment.
We would like to thank Filippo for his extraordinary efforts in his activities in India.
