Our French volunteer Philippe Riou, who went to Bosnia and Herzegovina within our ESC Humanitarian Aid project “HAND”, funded by the European Commission and hosted by our Bosnian partner, Bosnian Representative Association for Valuable Opportunities (BRAVO), completed his 10-month volunteering service in Sarajevo.
During his volunteering, Philippe worked in the Blažuj and Ušivak Camps, which are the temporary reception centres for the refugees. He worked in the warehouse of the refugee camps. He prepared the welcome packages and distributed them to the migrants. He cleaned the outside of their living spaces. He sorted the clothes and the blankets given by the Red Cross.
Philippe also worked in the elderly centre. He participated in the painting workshop and he played board games with the elderly. He helped with the cleaning of the centre and took care of the garden.
Within his activity, Philippe became more outgoing and less anxious about speaking a foreign language. He took Bosnian language courses and got the level of A1. He had a better idea about what migrants are going through. He listened to their stories. This activity helped him a lot to develop himself in a personal way. We would like to thank Philippe for all his dedication in his work.
