Our French volunteer Lucas Magrans completed his 9-month service in India within our European Solidarity Corps, Humanitarian Aid project \u201cHAND\u201d, funded by the European Commission, coordinated by us, supported by our Irish partner Viatores Christi Company Limited by Guarantee (VC) and hosted by our Indian partner Orissa State Volunteers and Social Workers Association (OSVSWA). Lucas and his co-volunteers developed a project called \u201cSAFER\u201d. In SAFER, the main activities involved research, project management (including planning, organization, execution, monitoring and control, communication, and stakeholder management), focus group discussions with communities, implementation of Participatory Rural Appraisal tools, note taking, and meetings with experts and government officials, including one with the Portuguese ambassador and another with a representative of the European Delegation in Delhi. Lucas also took part in beach cleaning, climate change conference, mangroves plantation, project research, project creation, project management, focus group discussions with the local rural farmers (note taker), monitoring and evaluation reports, roundtables with experts. Through his activity, he developed himself on managing a team of volunteers during the implementation of a Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) project, which involved planning, organizing, and delegating tasks to ensure successful data collection, conducting research on climate change impacts on Odisha and on participatory rural appraisal tools, public speaking, team work skills, Participatory Rural Appraisal techniques and their application in data collection and community engagement and local agricultural practices and challenges faced by the communities he worked with.
