Our volunteer Kerem Y\u0131lmaz, who went to Bosnia and Herzegovina within our ESC Humanitarian Aid project \u201cHAND\u201d, funded by the European Commission and hosted by our Bosnian partner, Bosnian Representative Association for Valuable Opportunities (BRAVO), completed his 11-month volunteering service in Sarajevo.<\/div>\n
During his volunteering, Kerem worked in the Temporary Reception Centers (TRCs) for migrants and refugees in Sarajevo and took part in BRAVO\u2019s EU projects.<\/div>\n
He helped to provide shelter, food, and support to people fleeing conflict zones in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. His days were full with distributing food, organizing activities for kids, and helping refugees with the asylum process. Teaching language basics was also a part of the role. He saw that it was so amazing to see how just a few words could help people feel a bit more at home. The work he performed was sometimes challenging. But the friendships and stories shared with the beneficiaries were powerful reminders of resilience. Each story he heard motivated him to keep pushing forward, knowing how much these moments matter.<\/div>\n
He also contributed to the EU projects of BRAVO and helped the staff with facilitating activities and practical arrangements with hosting participants of the youth exchanges and trainings.<\/div>\n
This humanitarian aid experience in Sarajevo was not just about the work for him. It was about friendships, sharing the stories, and the opportunity to understand the reasons why people are fleeing their countries. Sarajevo has become a part of him, and he will carry his memories with him for a long time.<\/div>\n
