As part of our ESC Humanitarian Aid project \u201cSTARRY\u201d<\/strong>, funded by the European Commission, Claudia Bernardi-Gra Roig<\/strong> from Spain completed her volunteering experience in Zanzibar. Sent by Asociacion Building Bridges<\/strong> and hosted by Assalam Community Foundation<\/strong>, Claudia spent several months supporting local initiatives while gaining valuable personal and professional experience.<\/p>\n

Throughout her volunteering journey, Claudia contributed to Assalam\u2019s communication and outreach activities by creating photo and video content, learning video editing techniques, and helping develop social media strategies to engage wider audiences. She also supported the organization\u2019s online visibility by working on website content and SEO strategies.<\/p>\n

\"\" \"\" \"\" \"\"<\/p>\n

Beyond digital communication, Claudia embraced the local culture by attending Swahili language classes and engaging closely with the local community. She participated in sustainability-focused activities, including permaculture training, animal care, and learning about environmentally friendly agricultural practices.<\/p>\n

Her experience also included supporting humanitarian initiatives such as food packaging and distribution, Qurban activities, and the preparation of school materials and clothing for families and children in need. Through these activities, she gained direct insight into local realities and community resilience.<\/p>\n

Claudia also took part in several community events, including Orphan Camps, School Sports Day, Assalam Anniversary celebrations, and Sufi Fest, experiencing Zanzibar\u2019s rich cultural heritage and community spirit.<\/p>\n

In addition, she explored a variety of traditional and practical skills through workshops on ceramics, sewing, natural soap production, eco-printing, traditional cooking, and handicrafts, further enriching her intercultural learning experience.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on her journey, Claudia highlighted the importance of intercultural exchange, community engagement, digital communication, and lifelong learning. Her experience demonstrates how international volunteering can foster solidarity, mutual understanding, and positive social impact across borders.<\/p>\n
