The Second Volunteer Team of Our STARRY Project Has Started Its Mission in Zanzibar!
The second volunteer team of our STARRY (Solidarity Targeted Activities Run by Rising Youth) project, implemented under the European Solidarity Corps – Humanitarian Aid programme, has arrived in Zanzibar, Tanzania to begin a 59-day humanitarian volunteering mission.
Our volunteers Inès Sakho and Cloé Couraud from France, Rachele De Felice from Austria, Veronica Giannelli from Italy, Ismail Ahmad from Denmark, and Amanda Lam from Sweden will actively contribute to a wide range of community-based activities under the coordination of our hosting organisation, Assalam Community Foundation (ACF), with the support of the sending organisations EPEKA Türkiye and Asociación Building Bridges from Spain.
Throughout their volunteering period, they will work alongside children, young people, and local communities in rural areas of Zanzibar, making a meaningful contribution to education and sustainable development.
Educational Activities
✨ Travel to different villages each week together with local teachers,
Organise educational activities focusing on science, art, and sports,
Conduct workshops, games, and interactive learning sessions for children,
Provide educational support to more than 5,000 children in over 20 remote villages.
Permaculture and Environmental Activities
Teach permaculture to children, young people, and women,
Support the cultivation of Zanzibar’s main agricultural crops and natural cosmetic plants,
Take part in tree planting, beach clean-up campaigns, and food aid initiatives using crops produced in ACF’s eco-village.
Throughout this activity, our volunteers will work hand in hand with local communities in the spirit of solidarity, intercultural learning, and active citizenship. While creating a positive impact on the lives of others, they will also gain invaluable personal and professional experiences and contribute to a more sustainable future.
