✨ Six Months of Solidarity, Learning and Growth in Morocco!
Our Italian volunteer, Filomena De Lucia, has successfully completed her six-month European Solidarity Corps (ESC) Humanitarian Aid volunteering activity in Jerada, Morocco, as part of our STARRY project! ❤️
Hosted by our Moroccan partner, Association Issaaf Jerada – Solidarité et Développement, Filomena contributed to a wide range of educational, social and community-based activities aimed at supporting local communities and creating opportunities for learning, participation and intercultural exchange.
Throughout her volunteering journey, Filomena taught English to local young people, encouraging them to develop their communication skills through interactive and engaging activities. She also organised regular sports activities for women, providing opportunities for physical activity, social interaction and community engagement.
As part of her educational work, Filomena participated in a Training of Trainers process and developed training materials on crisis management, natural disaster preparedness, psychosocial support for children and children’s right to play and recreation. These activities contributed to strengthening the educational resources available to the hosting organisation and its local community.
Beyond her direct work with local beneficiaries, Filomena supported Association Issaaf Jerada in developing project proposals, strengthening its institutional profile and improving its international communication. Through these contributions, she helped the organisation present its activities and initiatives to potential international partners and donors.
Living and volunteering in Morocco also offered Filomena valuable opportunities for personal and professional growth. Working in a multicultural environment, adapting to different working methods and navigating unexpected challenges helped her develop greater independence, flexibility, intercultural awareness and confidence in her professional skills.
Reflecting on her experience, Filomena emphasised that solidarity is not simply about helping others, but also about listening, adapting, exchanging knowledge and recognising the complexity of the communities in which we work.
Her journey reminds us that volunteering is a process of mutual learning, where both volunteers and local communities have the opportunity to share experiences, develop new perspectives and grow together.
